I had these adorable wee candles that had been left in my room when I moved in (cranberry and apple scents, yummmmm). Unfortunately, they smelt so good I just kept lighting them every time I was home, so they didn't last long. Afterwards, I was somewhat at a loss with what to do with them. I didn't just want to throw them out, because they were such cute little jars, and besides, I had just bought a bunch of hair clips and needed something to store them in. I vaguely remembered reading something online that recommended pouring boiling water into old candle jars to remove the wax, so I went on a google quest for advice on the subject. The very first google search result confirmed my half-remembered instructions. And thus I proceeded...
I didn't get any good shots of this, but it was so cool to watch the bubbles of melting wax separate and rise up from the bottom of the jars.
So cool!
By the second round of water there was very little wax left, which I removed using just some dish soap, really hot tap water, and scrubbing.
Result: super cute wee holder for my new hair clips.
Good job re-using!
ReplyDeleteAnother method is to put them in the freezer for awhile. The wax shrinks and pops out when you push it with a knife. Mostly, works like a charm.
