Samhain

Samhain is a Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. It is celebrated from sunset on 31 October to sunset on 1 November, which is nearly halfway between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice. Along with Imbolc, Beltane and Lughnasadh it makes up the four Gaelic seasonal festivals. It was observed in Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man.

A couple days ago I went over to Kate's apartment, where her roommates and I proceeded to carve some super awesome pumpkins.

My super awesome Jack Skellington pumpkin
Then on wednesday, for our weekly movie night organized through our program, we watched The Ninth Gate (which was extremely bizarre) and ate a lot of candy and halloween-themed foods, including the best crackers I have ever seen in my life...

Last night was Halloween, which is, in my humble opinion, the most important holiday of the calendar year. My night started off at Melissa's, where I spent several hours putting on my makeup for the evening (cheers Alix for the help with my back and arms!). We were supposed to head over to this fire festival, but ended up leaving late and it ended early, so we missed it. However, we were not deterred and proceeded over to The Three Sisters for the Napier Students party.

Drinking wine through a straw in an attempt to not smudge my makeup... I needn't have worried though. It did not want to come off even when I wanted it to.

A fangirl, Macklemore, and a skeleton.
AKA Melissa, Kyra, and Alix.

Wednesday Adams and a skeleton

A skeleton and a burglar.

It was a fairly fantastic night, all told. Probably my favourite halloween costume I've ever done, plus it was so much fun to do.

Looked exactly the same after seven hours as it did at the beginning of the night - impressive makeup!
The only downside - I couldn't smile all night in photos cuz then I'd have two sets of teeth. Which was a weird look, believe me. It was also extremely difficult to wash off.

I told everyone at the beginning of the night that I would probably end the night crying in the shower at 2am scrubbing at my skin saying "I just want to go to bed" - while I wasn't crying, this prediction did turn out to be quite accurate. Thank goodness for makeup remover!

Happy Halloween :)

  1. Kyra Jensine - No matter how much it hurt getting that make-up off, in My opinion, it was well worth it. I burst out laughing as I scrolled down, and then just laughed harder as I went back up. GOOD FOR YOU, and Good for Your make-up Artists. Awesome, I am sending You a picture of Me and the Bar-maid in Twin Cities Hotel, but NOTHING compared to Yours. (and NO makeup) ;-) ;-) ;-) It truly was great, Love You
