Day One: Zombie Kiki Stumbles Around Edinburgh, Alarms Locals

Travelling is insane - seriously, someone really needs to get on making that teleportation business a reality ASAP. In total, it took me about 23 hours door-to-door, with about 13.5 of those actually spent on a plane. It was completely exhausting, though entering the UK was super easy, so that was a nice end to my trip. And the car I had booked was waiting for me, and my landlord met me at the apartment, so everything went quite smoothly there. I went to bed at 8:30 pm (1:30 pm for those of you back in Canada) and woke up at 3:30 am. Its currently 4 pm and I'm seriously considering a nap, even though I really want to try and push through till a reasonable bed time to get myself adjusted as soon as possible.

Wanted to get my cellphone set up today; unfortunately the provider I had decided to go with did not have any pay-and-talk SIM cards in, so I'll be heading back up to Princes Street again tomorrow - fair enough, since I need to revisit the IKEA-esque store I found (John Lewis) - in a moment of complete tiredness I failed to notice the duvet on my single bed was a double (which, like, really?), and thus bought the wrong size of sheets (is jet-lag going to be my excuse for everything stupid I do in the next week? Yes, yes it is). Other than that one oops, it was a super successful shopping trip - I got throw pillows and a blanket for my window seat, which is now looking totally baller, pillow covers, a towel (and finally got to SHOWER when I got home, thank god), a desk lamp, baskets for make up and yarn and electronics (as I am once again stuck with a desk that doesn't have friggin' drawers), and hangers. Seriously such a fun shopping trip, especially since I stopped and grabbed Starbucks and was feeling *much* more awake at that point. Still need to get a couple more organizational/storage things (I really need to figure out how I'm going to organize and store my jewellery) and a laundry hamper, but other than that, super successful trip - would have been nice to figure out the bus route since this was a bit of a hike carrying all of that, but oh well.

Also got lost the first time I tried leaving the flat this morning, as as soon as I left the building I turned left instead of right and instead of turning around when I realized I was no longer on the right road, proceeded to get completely lost (but still magically ended up back at my flat less than an hour later - how, we will never know).

Going to be venturing out again soon to attempt to find a place to purchase some real food (there is a small grocers right across the street but it is apparently very overpriced - so my roommate tells me). There is also a Chinese takeaway right across the street, so that might end up being my dinner tonight.

Saw a castle today! Not like, up close, but it was there! I almost walked into other people a couple of times because I was staring up at it like the tourist that I am, but hey. I figure I'll do all the super tourist-y things this week before the embarrassment sets in (not today though - I have worn out my supply of energy unpacking).

Good lucking finding real food, and possibly doing touristy things.

Pretty pictures :) Mainly the outside ones, but that is a very shiny window seat as well.
